San Tan Valley Community to Hold Candlelight Vigil for Teenager Preston Lord

preston-thurs
In a solemn gathering of remembrance, Combs High School is preparing to host a candlelight vigil this Thursday, Nov. 9, in honor of Preston Lord, the beloved teenager who tragically lost his life following events that unfolded on the night of October 28.

Community members of San Tan Valley are invited to join at the high school's courtyard at 6 p.m. to pay tribute to the young life that was cut short. The J.O. Combs Unified District extended the invitation, expecting a significant turnout of those who wish to offer their support and share in the collective mourning.

"The Combs community continues to hold the Lord family and those dearest to them in our thoughts," the district shared in a heartfelt statement, signaling the profound impact of the loss on the local community.

Preston Lord's death came as a shock after he was discovered suffering from serious injuries in a neighborhood close to Via Del Oro and 194th Street. On the night of a large Halloween party, which reportedly saw a gathering of around 100 teenagers, neighbors dialed 911 multiple times reporting disturbances and intoxicated minors in the vicinity.

The aftermath of the festive night took a dark turn when Lord was later pronounced deceased, leading to an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of his death. The Queen Creek police are currently treating the case as a homicide and are actively pursuing leads. To date, no suspects have been taken into custody.

Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge pertaining to the incident to come forward and contact the police at 480-358-3500. The community seeks answers in the wake of the tragedy, with the hope that the vigil will not only serve as a platform for grieving but also as a call to action for justice in Preston Lord's memory.

In light of this event, the San Tan Valley community stands united in support of the Lord family, demonstrating the strength and compassion of the residents in the face of adversity. The vigil promises to be a poignant reminder of a life lost too soon and a community's resolve to seek closure and peace.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
