Originally hoping to open in late 2007, then mid-2009, Scottsdale based Diversified Partners planned to develop Skyline Ranch Marketplace, located at Hunt Hwy & Gary Rd in San Tan Valley. The original plans included two anchor tenants, Home Depot and Target. In addition there were plans for clothing outlets, restaurants and other businesses. The housing boom had made Pinal County, especially the area now known as San Tan Valley, the third-fastest growing county in the United States. When the economy took a turn however, the area was hit hard and development stopped.
Over the last ten years, the Skyline Ranch Marketplace has developed differently than the original plans. With every new addition however, the San Tan Valley community has asked, "When is Home Depot going to build?" Year after year, there were no plans. Portions of the land owned by Home Depot for close to twenty years, had been listed for sale adding more doubt that they would ever build in San Tan Valley.
After more than a decade of waiting, Home Depot has not only announced plans to finally build on their site in San Tan Valley, but they have plans to open in November of 2022.
While some residents are excited about the news, others can't help but doubt whether they really will. "I bought out here in 2005, because of the promise of that center," said local San Tan Valley resident, James P. "After all of these years it's hard to believe that they really are going to build now. I guess I'll just have to wait and see."
